Jesus Parties Too!

The best time of my life have been around others. Growing up I always wanted to have a big family. I wanted to have a lot of kids because I wanted to have big parties!

I envisioned being the host, always having people over and having a party for everything. As I grew older and my husband and I are in a season of still waiting on God for a first born, that vision has faded a little and parties aren’t what I think about anymore. I sit and ask God why? Have I lost hope? I’m faced with the reality that I’m 28 going on 29 and the plan of having 4+ kids seems nearly impossible. Yet when I read the Bible, where did Jesus first take his disciples? To a wedding! It’s a party! Why do you go to weddings? Besides the “because they are family,” or “because my spouse made me.” You go to have fun! And I think Jesus took his disciples there to have fun. He loved the people and I’m sure he went to crack a few jokes since God is full of humor.

I’m not saying go and get drunk or commit adultery. Im saying good ‘ol fun with the new bride and her family. And that’s how Jesus wants us to be. Have fun! In the midst of the craziness and busyness he wants us to stop and have fun. I don’t have to wait to have kids to have fun or enjoy others. This in particular is what I feel God is speaking to me these days. I grew up in an environment where dancing was frowned upon unless you were dancing to worship songs. Where the only songs you could sing was songs to God. I had a hard time as an adult coming out of this thinking. And Jesus sometimes seemed boring in my mind. But then as I talked to God about it I realized that Jesus had fun so you and I can!

I’m a creative and dancing has always been something I been drawn to. I danced in high school but it wasn’t until my senior year that I had the courage and asked my parents to come to one of my dance shows. I felt guilty because I felt like God was this full of  rules kind of God. But He is not. Jesus probably danced the night away with his disciples, and he was Jesus, so he probably drank a glass of wine with his friends.

The point was he loved to be around others when he had fun. You see the real reason I envisioned a house full of people and parties all day wasn’t because my heart was in the ungodliness of it. It was because I was thinking of the fun I’d create with my family and friends. Don’t let people tell you how you should have fun! If you’ve talked to God about it and He’s given you peace then live your life. God called us to be a light to the world not a party popper. He called us to show others how much FUN it is to live a life walking with Jesus.

How attractive and fun is your life? We are called to live our lives and glorify God through our daily living. No one wants to follow someone who is boring and dull. I’m not saying throw a party everyday but I am saying bring the joy and cheerfulness that a party gives you, take it everywhere you go! After all, when we get to heaven we will be partying for eternity, why not start now and bring others with us to the ultimate party in heaven?
